My Choice - Easter 2011 Fun at the POD
The My Choice Easter holiday scheme was held 11th – 15th April 2011 at The POD. It followed an “Animal Magic” theme and the children were aptly split into groups named Hippos – Yr 1 / 2; Zebras – Yr 3 /4 and Leopards – Yr 5 / 6. We had a jam-packed week, with children from all 6 local primary cluster schools (St Matthews, St Vincents etc) accessing a range of activities both on and off site. The programme was well attended, with provision for up to 60 children each day and a total of 291 out of 300 children attending for the whole week.
The programme included partnership working with Workshops for Schools (WFS), Complete Kidz and Nechells Sports Centre and Birmingham Wheels Roller Speed Club. The children were encouraged to access local provisions and spent a whole day at the local sports centre and a further day at the roller skating park. Many of the children were exposed to new experiences/activities and thoroughly enjoyed the week and the only complaint being that the holiday programme should have run for a further week!
The week kicked off with animal-themed face-painting, an animal workshop and the Lion King Dance workshop. A mini-performance was given to parents/carers at the end of the day. Other activities throughout the week included:
Drum-making,
Weaving,
Sculpture
Cake decorating
Roller Skating
African Story-telling
African drumming and Dembje Drum making
A range of sports activities including boxing, volleyball,
